White Sox Recall Bryan Ramos from Birmingham with Danny Mendick Injured

The Chicago White Sox made a pair of roster moves involving infielders before Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The team placed Danny Mendick on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 2) with lower back tightness and recalled Bryan Ramos from Double-A Birmingham.

Mendick was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due his back issue. In 10 games since rejoining the White Sox, the veteran is slashing .256/.293/.410 with one home run, three doubles, and three RBIs.

Ramos is off to a rough start with the Birmingham Barons, slashing .182/.265/.307 with two homers, five doubles, and 11 RBIs in 24 games. However, he's a member of the White Sox' 40-man roster, so recalling him limits the roster shuffling the club has to do in replacing Mendick.

Given his early struggles, Ramos will likely serve in a bench role for the White Sox. The first time he sees the field will mark his MLB debut after parts of five seasons in Chicago's minor-league system.

The White Sox are back in action Saturday against the Cardinals. Erick Fedde will start for the South Siders while old friend Lance Lynn toes the rubber for the Cardinals. First pitch is at 1:15 PM CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Chicago.
