Kevin Harvick tried to make sense of the wreck that ruined the afternoon at Dover for Bubba Wallace, William Byron and Christopher Bell.

Everyone was racing hard at The Monster Mile, but it ended up biting them in the behind, as a huge wreck collected three of the Cup Series’ best wheelmen, basically ending their afternoons. During this week’s episode of Harvick’s Happy Hour, the former NASCAR champion attempted to explain what happened.

First, Harvick’s co-host Mamba Smith tried to preface the conversation by explaining his point of view, believing it was a simple mistake that caused the whole incident.

“I mean, they were racing hard on that restart,” Smith stated. “They were three-wide, going through one and two. And the unfortunate part about this is, obviously everyone wrecked, but Tyler Reddick was on the inside of Zane [Smith], making the move. Like it was a late move — he was there, but it was a late move. And then Zane like, I don’t remember if they touched here or not, but he had to move up, regardless. He got tight or whatever, and Bubba was on the outside. It just was a massive wreck.”

Harvick’s raced at Dover his fair-share of times, so he believes it was simply a bad spot for Tyler Reddick to shove it in late, even if the No. 45 was just looking to be aggressive, and didn’t mean to wreck anyone.

“Basically what happened there is Tyler shoved it in there really late on the bottom, and Zane, I don’t think really anticipated him doing that, and kind of jerked the car to the right, and Bubba was starting to come down the hill when Zane jerked the car back up the hill, and clipped Bubba,” Harvick added. “But lucky that wreck wasn’t bigger than it was. Usually when they wreck like that off Turn 2 at Dover, it collects most everybody behind them.

“But you know, the way that that wreck turned out, there wasn’t as many cars as as I thought could be involved in that. So, I really think that that wreck was just a racing deal. With just the reaction and the timing of how everything happened.”

Alas, there will be plenty more opportunities for each wheelman to bounce-back, especially at Kansas this weekend, where Bubba Wallace, William Byron and Christopher Bell all run well. Kevin Harvick will be keeping an eye on the action from the FOX booth, as it should be a fascinating race.
